"Committed" is touring down under with the Australian Greek Film Festival, with several sessions in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth over October and November. We are thrilled to hear that the screenings have been such a success that they are selling out and additional sessions have been added due to popular demand!
“Committed” has had a great run over the last few months! It followed its national release in Cyprus with the Protaras Summer Film Festival where it screened at a massive open-air cinema in front of 600 people. It then made its rounds at festivals around the world from India to Australia and the USA, featuring in cities like New York and Chicago!
Finally, we had two very special charity screenings in my home country, South Africa. Together with the the Cyprus High Commission, the Cyprus Brotherhood of SA and the Pretoria Hellenic Community we hosted screenings at Cinema Nouveau in Brooklyn, Pretoria and Rosebank, Johannesburg. We were honoured to have the Cyprus High Commissioner present, as well as the Pouroulis Family and many wonderful friends who turned up for the occasion. All proceeds were donated to charity and I had a chance to reconnect with my hometown.
“Committed” finally hit the big screen on the little island of Cyprus! On Thursday 19 June, the day before our nation-wide release, we hosted a glittering premiere at the Nicosia K-Cineplex. We were joined by our cast, crew, supporters, celebrities, dignitaries and the media to celebrate the event!
On Tuesday 17 June, in the build-up to Cyprus release of “Committed” we hosted a wonderful charity screening for two very worthy organisations: the Sirius Dog Sanctuary which looks after abandoned dogs and the Dr Yiota Demetriou Dancing Queen Foundation which provides psychological care for children and teenagers.
Our leading man Orestes Sophocleous was present for the event along with our very special four-legged guest Mo. The screening was a great success, raising funds for both charities and giving audiences a fun afternoon and sneak peek at our film!
In early June “Committed” traveled to the heart of the entertainment industry to participate in the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival! It was one of the most talked-about films at the festival and I was also invited to present a workshop on Microbudget Filmmaking using “Committed” as a case study. Aside from the festival, filmmakers had the opportunity to meet people like Jim Gianopulos (CEO, 20th Century Fox), Phedon Papamichael (Oscar-nominated Cinematographer) and Greg Yaitanes (Director, “House MD”). Overall, it was an inspiring experience and wonderful exposure for our film!
A big thank you to Angeliki Gianakopoulos, Ersi Danou, Aris Katopedis and the whole LAGFF team for a great festival!
There are no words to describe the glamour and grandeur of the Cannes Film Festival…so we won’t!
Rather take a look at the pictures below for a taste of our visit to the biggest film festival in the world. “Committed” was a part of the film market, the Cannes Marche du Film, and had its market premiere screening on Sunday 18 May. It was also represented at the Cyprus Pavilion at the Cannes International Village. To be a part of something so legendary was both overwhelming and inspiring…and certainly an experience we wish to repeat!
We also had a chance to catch up with our awesome leading lady Melia Kreiling as she launched her new film, the sci-fi thriller "DxM".
Red Bull Media’s film production label CineMater launched their flagship project at the Cannes Film Festival. Kreiling will play opposite Sam Neill and a cast of emerging talents including Tom Payne (The Physician), Antonia Campbell-Hughes, Dominique Tipper and Oliver Stark. The film will be directed by Andrew Goth and starts principal photography in June.
We wish her the very best!
“Committed” made its international debut at the San Francisco Greek Film Festival on 10 May to a warm and enthusiastic audience. SFGFF was also the very first festival to screen my first short film “The Fiddler” three years ago, so this was a wonderful full-circle moment for me. The festival was well organised and well attended, with a great variety of films from Greece and Cyprus. Credit is due to the amazing team of organisers headed up by Kleon Skourtis and a very big thank you to my adopted San Francisco family Markos and Theodora Kounalakis.
On Tuesday 8 April, “Committed” came to home-ground in Limassol for its second screening in the Cyprus Film Days International Film Festival. All I can say is that we really felt the love! Friends, family and audience members turned up to cheer us on and make us feel like we can take on the world! We also had our wonderful collaborators from the Sirius Dog Sanctuary with us, whose enthusiasm was priceless! A huge thank you to everyone who attended!
On Sunday 6 April “Committed” had its first ever public screening at Zena Palace in Nicosia as part of the Cyprus Film Days International Film Festival. The great turnout and glowing support was absolutely wonderful! We were fortunate to have most of our crew present, and while our cast was away, they were with us in spirit…
After a vigorous funding campaign, whirlwind pre-production period and very intense shoot, Stelana Kliris wrapped her first feature film "Committed" which she wrote and directed. Shot over 17 days, across 25 locations in Cyprus with a crew of 12 and cast of 2, this road trip movie proved to be both challenging and thrilling!
She now enters the post production period and has started editing the film.
